Loop 1 creates devices combining the human figure, material and gestures which, thanks to the hybridisation of the two media, show a transition between appearance and disappearance on a loop.
Photo/Video adds to the notions of time and space of photography («instantaneous», «fixed» and «frozen») the notions of «speed», «distance» and «metamorphosis» specific to video. Video/Photo adds to the notions of time and space of video («speed», «distance» and «metamorphosis») the notions of photography («instantaneous», «fixed» and «frozen»).
The photographic and video media and their presentation provide the basis for the coming and going dynamic between appearance and disappearance, the transition, and the hybridisation of the two media by attenuating their characteristic distinctions: all videos are in 1/3 format, in the middle of the screen, like videos of photographs in portrait format. The media comprises video monitors with thin frames, comparable to shadow boxes or frames, so as to establish a visual correspondence with the photographs.
Loop 2 creates devices animated by a dynamic of repetition that subject the works of loop 1 to time to widen the transition from one loop to the other and in parallel continue the hybridisation of media. They steer towards the disappearance of the subject in favour of an accumulation of matter in the dark. Representation both in the visual and the tool in its use are altered.
The gestures, materials and light maintain their basic device dynamic that enables the cyclical coming and going between appearance and disappearance that contributes to the interpretation of this transition on a loop. As the works are photographs of the photographs and videos of the videos of loop 1, the quality of the visual decreases.
The photographic and video media and their presentation contribute to the coming and going dynamic between appearance and disappearance, the transition, and this emphasis on hybridisation by further diminishing their characteristic distinctions: suppression of the frames of the two media and presentation of the video monitors vertically, in 9/16 format with a full screen image.
The photographic and video media of the two loops and their presentations participate in the coming and going dynamic between appearance and disappearance, the widening of the passage, and the emphasis of the hybridisation of the two media in the transition from one loop to the other.
Loop 3 creates devices animated by a dynamic of repetition that subject the works of loop 2 to time to widen the passage from one loop to the other and completely eliminate the distinction between the two media. They lean even more towards the disappearance of the subject in favour of the material in the darkness. In photography and video the accumulation of elements of the loop devices replace the figure, directing the figuration towards abstraction.
The quality of the visual further decreases, showing works that are photographs of the photographs and videos of the videos of loop 2. The gestures, materials and light maintain their basic device dynamics which enable the cyclical back and forth between appearance and disappearance which contributes to the interpretation of this looped transition.
The new photographic and video media and their presentation contribute to the back and forth dynamic between appearance and disappearance, the transition, and to eliminating the distinction between the two media. Their hybridisation completely removes their characteristic differences: the photographs as well as the videos are projected onto a sheet of white photographic paper mounted on Dibond. The light of the projector makes the dark images appear more obvious. Maintaining the dynamic of appearance enables a link and continuity with loop 1 so that the whole work functions with a looped playback.
The photographic and video media of the two last loops and their presentations contribute to the coming and going dynamic between appearance and disappearance, the widening of the transition, and the elimination of the distinction between the two media in the transition from one loop to the other.
